When we ask for balance in the debates on gun legislation, the gun lobby attempts to obfuscate the issues to suggest that any movement toward protecting our population as a whole from gun violence somehow diminishes their individual rights as citizens. But a study by the Violence Policy Center states, "Following every mass shooting, the gun lobby’s rote response is for private citizens to purchase and carry guns so they can act in self-defense. This argument has no basis in reality."
